History
See how we’ve grown!
Stroke Comeback Center opened our first center in Oakton, Virginia in 2005, offering three weekly communication support classes to 12 survivors.
In 2009, we moved to a larger center in Vienna, Virginia. We added new programs – adaptive exercise, cognitive classes, and our Caring Connection program for family members and care partners.
In 2018 we opened a center in Rockville, Maryland. This new center was designed to accommodate all our classes, with plenty of meeting space and our own gym!
In late 2019 we started our Virtual Stroke Comeback Center. Through the Virtual Center, we provide services to survivors living in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. We relied on the Virtual Center during the COVID-19 pandemic, when our Vienna and Rockville centers were closed.
In 2025 we marked our 20th Anniversary with a year of celebrations! We’re now serving over 250 survivors and their families each year through our three centers – Vienna, Rockville, and Virtual – and offering over 80 weekly classes!
Where we are today
Stroke Comeback Center continues to hold true to our founder’s vision of keeping our services affordable for all families and never turning away a survivor for financial reasons. On average, each program participant receives over 100 hours of direct support through our programs each year. We provide a sense of community, with the goal of improving quality of life while addressing individual goals and fostering peer support. Our weekly therapeutic classes support all aspects of recovery and well-being: communication, cognition, fitness, and social connection. Through these small group classes, we assist survivors and their families by offering a path that allows them to re-engage in life and their communities. Since our modest beginnings in 2005, we have grown into a robust community offering comprehensive programs, allowing us to Open the Door to a Brighter Tomorrow for all stroke and brain trauma survivors.
