This class is for stroke survivors who want to learn about artificial intelligence (AI). We’ll explore how AI can help with everyday tasks, thinking, talking, and having fun. No experience needed — just come curious!
Express Yourself
Members will play a “Go Fish” style game, but anything goes! Members are encouraged to use verbal description, gesture, writing, etc. This class aims to focus on word retrieval strategies and compensation techniques.
What’s the Story
Members are given a photo or video prompt each week. On their own, they create a written story. Members come together in class to share their creative writing and edit/clarify each other’s work.
Tip of the Tongue: Names and Numbers
Challenge your language and numerical concepts through use of games. Class focuses on vocabulary, spelling, word and number retrieval skills. For members who communicate at a sentence or conversational level.
Cognitive Strategies 2
Focuses on learning and using specific strategies to improve thinking skills to increase overall independence. Different aspects of cognition are addressed: attention, memory, problem solving, etc. For members who need more support for strategy use.

This class addresses memory and word finding skills at a conversational level. Discussions are encouraged.
Sports Central

Top 100 Films
- Film lovers will watch movies from American Film Institute’s Top 100 List on their own. During class, members will discuss the film’s characters, plot and themes.
TV Talk: True Crime Documentary
- Members will watch and discuss true crime stories. You be the jury!
Social Success Boot Camp
- Members will discuss and practice strategies to read the (Zoom) room and take the other person’s perspective. Will cover topics like eye contact, taking the conversational floor, and choosing when to say something you’d say to a close friend vs. mixed company.
Big Picture Politics
- This class will focus on discussion of broad political topics chosen by members. Topics may include America’s reputation abroad, historical revisionism, the future of political parties and issues facing America, in general.
Murder Mysteries
- Focus on speech clarity, language use and problem-solving as you work through the clues with your group to solve the murder mystery cases.
Article Club
- Each week the group selects a 10-15 page article to read/listen to (on their own) from publications like the New York Times Magazine, New Yorker, Outside, Vanity Fair, Atlantic. We will discuss the article in class.
TV Talk: TURИ: Washington's Spies
- Members will watch and discuss this Netflix series based on Alexander Rose’s book Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring (2007), a history of the Culper Ring.

- For anyone who wants to work on math, numbers, and numerical concepts. This group focuses on accurate comprehension and expression of numbers. Number games are included.

- Discuss selected recreational outdoor activities which change weekly. We will discuss topics and learn techniques from our members who love to hunt, fish and do anything else outdoors.

- Practice one handed techniques for everyday tasks, learning about tools and gadgets to help get things done and conserve energy.
TV Talk: Chernobyl
- Discuss the HBO drama Chernobyl. It’s a 5 episode story about the 1986 nuclear disaster. You’ll need access to HBO Max to view it.
Comic Relief
- Watch and discuss famous comedians from the 20th Century. Communicate ideas and opinions about each comic’s style, what makes their stand-up work and overall just have a good laugh.

Google Scavenger Hunt
- Practice spelling and reading by finding information online, from the hours of a favorite coffee shop to photos that represent your current mood.
Book Club IV
- Reading material activities allow members with limited reading skills to participate and enjoy reading again. Average number of pages per week is 15-20. Members can read, listen or both.

- Member driven supported conversation based on art & artifacts–they choose the museum or site anywhere in the world each week.

- Emphasizes writing at the sentence level with emphasis on correct grammar and spelling. Editing tools in Microsoft Word will be utilized

- This is a class for both the SCC member and a communication partner. For emerging communicators with significant aphasia and/or apraxia or those who want to practice the technique of supported conversation with a family member/friend. This class will focus on practicing tools and techniques to improve the accuracy and efficiency of giving and receiving information with those who know more than they can say.
Taboo Topics
- Discuss and debate member selected taboo topics which change weekly. We will discuss adult topics, agree to disagree and walk away friends. This is a class for those who communicate at a sentence level.

- This class explores poems and songs about a weekly topic to practice figurative language, like metaphors.
Body & Mind Yoga
Practice holistic wellness of body and mind using yoga and qigong. Combine stretching, breathing, meditation, and energetic movement to relieve stress and tension. Exercises include standing postures as well as seated postures which can be done in a chair. Classes are easy and fun and are designed to help maximize your wellness.

What's the Word
- This class focuses on use of specific word retrieval strategies and complex language at a conversational level. For members with mild word retrieval deficits.
Verbs
- This class focuses on regular and irregular verbs, accurate verb tense usage and vocabulary expansion. Must be able to produce verbal speech at the word to phrase level.
TV Talk
- Watch the show at home and come together to practice communication skills while discussing a currently popular TV series. This class will focus on memory strategies to retain content.

- For emerging communicators with significant apraxia and/or aphasia.
- Group focuses on use of alternative communication systems, multi-modal communication strategies and the Mind Over Matter™ apraxia program.
