Benefit of Chocolate
We enjoyed hosting over 100 guests on Thursday, March 28th at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD for our annual Benefit of Chocolate. Attendees enjoyed cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres, delightful chocolate treats, wine tastings and a beautiful four string quartet from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. Our evening was hosted by Nicole Jacobs of NBC 4 News and Peggy Fox of WUSA 9. Speakers included our Board of Directors Chairperson, Joanne Addas, Stroke Comeback member, Geri O’Connell, and our Founder and Executive Director, Darlene Williamson. The highlight of the evening was our exciting live auction which raised over $6,500 for the Center. The evening concluded with a fun and frenzied cake decorating competition with a number of area rehabilitation teams as our competitors. On October 26, 2018 over 125 friends and supporters of the Stroke Comeback Center came together at the Hyatt Regency Dulles to enjoy an afternoon with Dr. Kathleen Howland, Ph.D. This nationally renowned lecturer gave a thought provoking presentation on music and the brain, illustrating how music serves as both a human necessity and a tool for wellness. Local stroke choir Different Strokes for Different Folks, led by Tom Sweitzer of Middleburg’s A Place to Be, where music meets therapy, gave a rousing and truly unforgettable performance. Special thanks to our event sponsors: MedStar NRH, Genentech, Tell Me Town Foundation and choir sponsors: the Wheeler Family Foundation and Inova Loudoun Hospital.

Benefit of Chocolate
This year’s gala fundraiser, the Benefit of Chocolate, was an entertaining and memorable evening for all. On June 7th, over 150 guests from the surrounding communities joined us at Westwood Country Club in Vienna, VA to enjoy delicious chocolate and wine pairings, experience some old fashioned magic with Eric Henning and live jazz by a George Mason University trio. Local chocolatiers from Artisan Confections, Cocoa Vienna, the Capital Candy Jar and Chouquette donated their time and delicious treats, while Ethel M Chocolates also donated chocolate for a beautiful and delicious display. Guests that evening also enjoyed an exciting silent auction. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Center, so we may continue to fulfill our mission in providing personally meaningful programs within a supportive and peer-driven environment that is affordable for all stroke and brain trauma survivors.
