Express Yourself
Members will play a “Go Fish” style game, but anything goes! Members are encouraged to use verbal description, gesture, writing, etc. This class aims to focus on word retrieval strategies and compensation techniques.
What’s the Story
Members are given a photo or video prompt each week. On their own, they create a written story. Members come together in class to share their creative writing and edit/clarify each other’s work.

TV Talk: True Crime Documentary
Members will watch and discuss true crime stories. You be the jury!
Social Success Boot Camp
Members will discuss and practice strategies to read the (Zoom) room and take the other person’s perspective. Will cover topics like eye contact, taking the conversational floor, and choosing when to say something you’d say to a close friend vs. mixed company.
Big Picture Politics
This class will focus on discussion of broad political topics chosen by members. Topics may include America’s reputation abroad, historical revisionism, the future of political parties and issues facing America, in general.
Murder Mysteries
Focus on speech clarity, language use and problem-solving as you work through the clues with your group to solve the murder mystery cases.
Article Club
Each week the group selects a 10-15 page article to read/listen to (on their own) from publications like the New York Times Magazine, New Yorker, Outside, Vanity Fair, Atlantic. We will discuss the article in class.

Members will watch and discuss this Netflix series based on Alexander Rose’s book Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring (2007), a history of the Culper Ring.

Reading material activities allow members with limited reading skills to participate and enjoy reading again. Average number of pages per week is 15-20. Members can read, listen or both.

This is a class for both the SCC member and a communication partner. For emerging communicators with significant aphasia and/or apraxia or those who want to practice the technique of supported conversation with a family member/friend. This class will focus on practicing tools and techniques to improve the accuracy and efficiency of giving and receiving information with those who know more than they can say.
Taboo Topics

Body & Mind Yoga
Practice holistic wellness of body and mind using yoga and qigong. Combine stretching, breathing, meditation, and energetic movement to relieve stress and tension.
